My new lifestyle in Australia

My name is Maryam Yokhan and I’m from Iraq. I came to Australia in 2020. It has a lot of opportunities for work and study also to live in peace with security.

My first impression of Australia was that Australia is a huge country with a small population. In Addition, it is a democratic and developed country. I noticed that people were walking, smiling and helping each other. It was strange that the road rules were different and I shocked the first time I saw a different way to drive it was hard and also my English was awful first I didn’t speak well On the other hand I improved my English and I’m still learning a lot. I felt excited.

There are some important cultural differences between Australia and Iraq. Different driving rules in my country driving car is on the right side while in Australia is on the left side. Different animals, in Australia there are many animals, like kangaroo and Koalas but in my country there are no Kangaroo. In my country we celebrate Christmas in Winter but in Australia we celebrate it in Summer.

My advice for someone experiencing culture shock you need to follow the rules, keep the country clean and study English to improve English skills to get a job even you need to respect all a different culture.

Hopefully it’s important to follow these rules to help you with culture shock.
